Encinal Market– Alameda East End’s Best Kept Secret
Today, we’re talking about why Alameda East End’s best kept secret is Encinal Market. It’s also one of the main things I miss from living on that end of the island and I’m really excited to share it with you. Right on the corner of Encinal Ave and High Street–if you’re thinking about moving to Alameda, this is definitely one of the things that you NEED to factor in.
Encinal Market is more than just a market.
Although the market is awesome, there’s so much more to it than just the market itself. Inside the complex, you can also find Bluefin Sushi and Thai Restaurant, The Feel Good Bakery, as well as a mailbox drop box.
When I used to live just a block away from Encinal Market, I could just walk or ride my bike for really quick trips. It was honestly one of the best conveniences I could have ever asked for. And now that I don’t have it? I seriously miss it. Being able to go down to Encinal for one or two quick grocery items was awesome. It was convenient. It was easy. And a side benefit is I didn’t have to do big shops at the large grocery stores nearly as often. One of the best parts? With Encinal Market, you also usually don’t have to stand in long lines.
Among other things that are also worth mentioning is the mail drop box right up at the corner of the market. Then, there’s the fantastic beverage selection for wine, liquor, and beer. Also just across the parking lot is The Feel Good Bakery and right on the corner is Bluefin Sushi and Thai, which is a fantastic restaurant. If you’re into that type of food, I would definitely highly recommend it for takeout.
Not just a cool benefit, it’s a MAIN attraction.
There’s are a couple of other awesome shops in the complex but really, the main attraction is Encinal Market. I have to tell you, if you’re thinking about moving here, it may not show up in the listing literature. It may even end up being sort of passed off as like, “Oh, that’s a cool benefit.” However, I promise you, if you moved here, you will use this, you will come here regularly.
If you’re considering a place that is within a half a mile of this intersection, you will come to Encinal very, very regularly. So if you’re weighing between a house that’s somewhere else and something that’s close by to Encinal? I would say, put this in the wind column as well, because it’s a huge luxury to be able to have.
The place to be for last minute shopping and not standing in lines.
To be able to just to walk over there, to bike over there, grab some meat, some beverages, some produce, which they have a good selection by the way, and be able to do it kind of last minute is just fantastic! You’ll no longer always be thinking about Trader Joe’s, Knob Hill, or one of the others, where sometimes there’s a line, or sometimes, they’re out of things. This place is almost always stocked and it’s ready to go for you.
So think about your proximity to Encinal Market if you’re going to move here to the East End, and definitely put that in the wind column if you’re looking at a house that is within a half a mile because it’s very walkable and bikable. I know that from experience.
